Nineteen Tsinghua research achievements recently were recognized at the 2010 State Science and Technology Awards. Tsinghua professors accepted the awards on January 14 at the annual National Science-Technology Award Ceremony in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
Chinese President Hu Jintao, Premier Wen Jiabao, Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee Member Li Changchun, Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping, and Vice Premier Li Keqiang attended the ceremony. State Council Member Liu Yandong announced the State Council's decisions on the 2010 State Science and Technology Awards.
Tsinghua’s research achievements rank first in total achievements among Chinese universities. Of Tsinghua’s 19 awards, one was State Natural Science Awards, six were State Technological Invention Awards, and twelve were State Scientific and Technological Progress Awards. Altogether seven research achievements were completed by Tsinghua as the lead research institution in collaboration with others.
The prize-winning research achievements as lead research institution were:
Radiation inspection technology for the defect in large-scale objects, primarily achieved by Professor Kang Kejun and his colleagues (State Technological Invention Award first prize);
Key technologies and equipments of emergency response platform systems, primarily achieved by academician Fan Weicheng and his colleagues (State Scientific and Technological Progress Award first prize);
Deformation and fracture of electromagnetic solids, primarily achieved by Professor Fang Daining and his colleagues (State Natural Science Award second prize);
New energy flexible hybrid powertrain system and its applications for city bus, primarily achieved by Professor Ouyang Minggao and his colleagues (State Technological Invention Award second prize);
Integrative identification and control for moving vehicles, primarily achieved by Professor Lian Xiaomin and his colleagues (State Technological Invention Award second prize);
Measurement Principle and Instrumentation for Inter-Stress and Phase Retardation of Optical Elements and Wave Plates, primarily achieved by Professor Zhang Shulian and his colleagues ((State Technological Invention Award second prize);
Theory, technologies, and their applications of air quality improvement in megacities, primarily achieved by academician Hao Jiming and his colleagues (State Scientific and Technological Progress Award second prize);
By the end of 2010, Tsinghua had won a total of 419 National Science and Technology Awards, including 44 National Natural Science Awards, 120 National Technological Invention Awards, and 255 National Scientific and Technological Progress Awards.
