President Chen Visits Tel Aviv University and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem

Tsinghua University President Chen Jining arrived in Israel on May 19th (Israel time) and visited Tel Aviv University and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He participated in a symposium on innovation and talent cultivation in science and technology, held at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and attended by Chinese Vice-Premier Liu Yandong and Israeli university presidents during the visit.

President Chen first visited Tel Aviv University in the morning, where he met and had discussions with Prof. Joseph Klafter, the President of Tel Aviv University, exchanging ideas on co-operation between the two universities on the Xin Center, a future-oriented center for innovative research and education,. He also attended the Science and Technology Committee meeting of the Xin Center and a press conference about the new center. 

The XIN Innovation Forum was opened at Tel Aviv University in the afternoon. More than 50 scholars, investors, and experts from China, Israel, and European and American countries attended the forum.

As a special guest, President Chen also attended the Israeli Prime Minister’s Innovation Prize awarding ceremony and later met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, together with Prof. Joseph Klafter. During their talk, Prime Minister Netanyahu noted that the government of Israel and himself would actively support co-operation between Tel Aviv University and Tsinghua University regarding the Xin Center. He expressed the hope that the Xin Center would promote innovation in the science and technology of both Israel and China, and contribute to the development of science and technology world-wide.
