Tsinghua Forms Ties With Malaysian High Schools and College

 On a two day visit to Malaysia on Nov. 7, Tsinghua President Qiu Yong attended the Tsinghua-Malaysia Chinese Independent School Forum.The Tsinghua envoy also visited a local college, TAR College, and met with local businessmen and Tsinghua alumni.

The first of its kind, the Tsinghua-Malaysia Chinese Independent School Forum was held in Hin Hua High School, a private Chinese school founded by Malaysian business tycoon, Yeoh Tiong Lay, who also attended the forum.

The forum also saw Hin Hua Principal Ng Swee Geok and principals of 17 Chinese independent schools in Malaysia.

Qiu Yong said that a good high school education leaves a deep impact in youths. He added that Malaysia’s Chinese Independent schools has a long history, where the oldest, Confucian High School, was established in 1906, older than Tsinghua University.

Qiu Yong also introduced Tsinghua’s education ideal and recent development in his speech. 

Tsinghua Vice President Yang Bin introduced Tsinghua’s recent push for globalization, increased creativity and focus on humanities to the Malaysian school administrators.

The forum also saw five Malaysian businessmen pledge to establish a scholarship for Malaysians studying at Tsinghua University.

At TAR College, Tsinghua signed a memorandum of understanding with the college for further cooperation. Also in attendance was Malaysia’s Minister of Transport Liow Tiong Lai.
