Commencement Ceremony for Undergraduate Students
The commencement ceremony for undergraduate students was held at Tsinghua University on July 7th 2019. More than 3,000 undergraduates attended the ceremony. Of the undergraduates, 3,292 received bachelor’s degrees and 567 received a second bachelor’s degree. The President and Chairman of the Degree Conferral Committee of Tsinghua University, Qiu Yong, Tsinghua University Council Chairperson Chen Xu, and other university leaders attended the ceremony and awarded certificates to the new undergraduates. The Vice President and Vice Chairman of the Degree Conferral Committee of Tsinghua University Yang Bin presided over the ceremony.
President Qiu Yong congratulated the graduates in his speech.
“Dear students, you are the first cohort of undergraduate students I have welcomed since I was appointed President of Tsinghua University. I am very happy to witness your four years of growth and to see you graduate successfully”.
President Qiu noted that young people are the vanguard of the times and generations of Tsinghua people have become the backbone of China’s prosperity and rejuvenation through their patriotic dedication and pursuit of excellence. “Tsinghua has laid a solid foundation for your life of constant self-improvement,” he said.
President Qiu also stated that in striving for self-improvement one must overcome his weaknesses and deficiencies. He hoped that the graduates would always place their country and people at the most exalted place in their minds. Those striving for self-improvement do not fear trials and hardships and are determined in the face of adversity. They create and innovate to pursue their dreams.
President Qiu hoped that the graduates would integrate the spirit of constant self-improvement into their unremitting pursuit of innovation, work hard to address the challenges of the times, serve the development of the country, promote the well-being of mankind, and dedicate all their passion, wisdom and strength to building a better world.
