On Dec 5th, TEDxTHU 2024 took place at Multifunctional Hall, Mong Man Wai building, Tsinghua University. Vice Provost Professor Wong Tien Yin delivered the opening remarks. The theme, “Resilience”, aligned perfectly with Tsinghua’s vision of building a “more open, integrative, and resilient university.” A dozen speakers from various disciplines such as communication, sustainable development, urban ergonomics, brain science, climate change, public health, aerospace, and sports shared their profound insights, enriching the discourse on cutting-edge topics and propelling the vision of a united community towards the future.
Remarks by Prof. Wong Tien Yin
Prof. Wong Tien Yin noted that resilience and a forward-looking vision have always been crucial drivers of humanity’s shared progress. As a world-class university with a global strategic outlook, Tsinghua University is embracing the world with greater openness. He expressed his delight at seeing the younger generation establish this platform to showcase Tsinghua’s innovative thinking to the world. The choice of “Resilience” as the theme, along with the exploration of global topics, reflects responsibilities and aspirations of the university.
Session 1
During Session 1, a distinguished lineup of speakers shared their expertise at Tsinghua University. Prof. Zhou Qing’an, dean of the School of Journalism and Communication, Prof. Cai Wenjia, assistant director of the Department of Earth System Science, Prof. Tang Kun, associate Professor of Vanke School of Public Health, Yao Song, co-founder of Orienspace and an alumnus of the Department of Electronic Engineering, Jiang Mengnan, Touching China award recipient and an alumna of the School of Basic Medical Sciences and Xiahereyat Ainiwaner, a Schwarzman Scholar, each delivered insightful speeches. Through their diverse perspectives, they illuminated global challenges and opportunities, enriching the dialogue on crucial issues.
Session 2
In Session 2, Zhang Li, dean of the School of Architecture, Carlo V. Cannistraci, chair professor at Tsinghua Laboratory of Brain and Intelligence; Xu Hehao, faculty of Division of Sports Science and Physical Education, Guo Kaidi, an alumna from the School of Environment, Julia Cores, a Schwarzman Scholar, and Xiao Lanxi, a PhD candidate from the Academy of Arts & Design shared their unique insights. Their diverse expertise and unique approaches not only deepened the understanding of complex issues but also sparked meaningful discussions on contemporary challenges in a rapidly changing world.

Authorized by TED, the TEDxTHU 2024 conference was initiated by Tsinghua students and jointly held by the Association of Student International Communication of Tsinghua University and the Graduates Union of Tsinghua University.
