Prof. Long Denggao named as Member of the Expert Advisory Committee of the State Council Overseas Chinese Affairs Office

The conference for the Expert Advisory Committee of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council took place on August 22, 2017. Yu Zhengsheng, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and chairman of the CPPCC, met with representatives of the Expert Advisory Committee and delivered a keynote speech at the Great Hall of the People. Including Professor Long Denggao, more than 200 top international experts and scholars in various areas are named as members of the Expert Advisory Committee. Of these members, up to 110 are academicians, including people such as Ding Zhoazhong and Zhu Jingwu from Europe and the U.S.

At the conference, Yu urged more efforts to be made to bring think tanks into full play, conduct prospective, strategic and targeted research surrounding key issues during China’s reform and opening-up and modernization, and give professional and constructive policy suggestions providing strong support for scientific decision-making. He also called on the members to offer advice, suggestions and critique according to the pragmatic scientific spirit, and make use of their mastery of Western and Chinese knowledge acting as a bridge between foreign countries and China. State Councilor Yang Jiechi also attended the conference.

Wan Gang, Vice Chairman of the CPPCC, delivered a special report themed “accelerating innovation-driven development and building China into a technology power in the world”. He said China has in the recent decade made great progress in technological innovation and industry promotion, but the gap with the U.S. is still remarkable. In technological innovation, the government should give support, and the market will lead:  the government is dedicated to the basic policy, long-term strategy and platform construction, while civil organizations and enterprises deliver creative ideas, technological innovations and industrial commercialization.
Qiu Yuanping, Director of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council, delivered a keynote presentation, while Xu Yousheng, Secretary of the Leading Party Group, and Deputy Director Tan Tianxing and Guo Jun also gave speeches.

Since the first conference for the Expert Advisory Committee in 2004, Long Denggao, Director of the Tsinghua University Center for Chinese Entrepreneur Studies (CCES) and Professor of the School of Social Sciences, has been a member of the Committee for five consecutive times.
